  • What is the goal of the BOOST program? 
    • BOOST: Building Outstanding Opportunities for Students to Thrive, aims to help bridge the gap between financial aid, wages, and the cost of living for students attending the Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) and pursuing careers in clinical, allied, and behavioral healthcare.
  • What will participants receive? How many will be selected? 
    • 250 randomly selected students will who qualify for assistance will receive $1,000 each month for 12 months. 
    • Additional applicants will be randomly selected to participate in the "control group."  People assigned to the control group will not receive a guaranteed income through the program. People assigned to the control group will be invited to participate in paid research activities, including surveys and interviews. 


  • Who is eligible to apply? 
    • Current LACCD students who meet all of the eligibility criteria may apply. 
  • How do students apply? 
    • The application is now closed. 
  • How are participants selected? 
    • All eligible applications will be randomly assigned to one of three groups: treatment, control, or non-participants. People assigned to the treatment group will receive a monthly guaranteed income of $1000 per month for one year.  People assigned to the control group will not receive a guaranteed income through the program but will be invited to participate in paid research activities, including surveys and interviews.  People assigned to the non-participant group will not receive a guaranteed income through the program and will not be invited to participate in research activities. 


  •  How do I know if my application was received? 
    • You will receive a confirmation email confirming your application was successfully completed. 
  • How do I know if I’ve been selected as a BOOST participant?

  • If selected, how will I receive my monthly Guaranteed Basic Income Distribution? Do I need to have a bank account? 
    • $1,000 monthly payments are loaded onto a debit card each month of participation. These cards will be mailed to participants. No bank account is needed. 
  • If selected, how may these payments impact financial aid or public benefit programs?

  • Are there conditions I must meet to maintain my eligibility? 
    • The purpose of this program is to provide financial support so that students can graduate and prepare for their careers. There are no requirements for ongoing participation. 


  • ¿Qué beneficios hay para los participantes? 
    • Los estudiantes seleccionados al azar que califican para asistencia reciben un ingreso mensual de $1,000 durante 12 meses, desde Noviembre de 2024 a Octubre de 2025.
  • ¿Cuántos participantes serán seleccionados y por quién?
    • Aproximadamente 250 participantes serán elegidos al azar por el Centro de Investigación de Ingreso Garantizado de la Universidad de Pennsylvania para recibir $1,000 al mes durante 12 meses. Además, alrededor de 370 solicitantes han sido seleccionados al azar para participar en el componente de investigación del programa llamado “grupo de control” (sin recibir depósitos de efectivo mensuales).


  • ¿Cómo sabré si he sido seleccionado como participante de BOOST? 
    • Enviamos correos electrónicos de aceptación de manera continua. Todos los participantes seleccionados de los grupos de control y tratamiento serán contactados a través de un correo electrónico de UPenn informándoles que han sido seleccionados. Aquellos que no hayan sido seleccionados también serán notificados por correo electrónico.
  • ¿Cómo recibiré mi distribución mensual de Ingreso Básico Garantizado? ¿Necesito tener cuenta bancaria? 
    • Los pagos de $1,000 estarán disponibles en una tarjeta de débito una vez al mes. Los participantes recibirán las tarjetas por correo. Una cuenta bancaria no es necesaria. 
  • ¿Cómo tengo que mantener mi elegibilidad?
